Perched 930 metres above sea level and surrounded by ancient Gondwana rainforest, O’Reilly’s has a mountain climate all of its own. Each season brings a different mood to the forest — and a new reason to return.
Discover even more during your stay with a changing calendar of seasonal activities, guided experiences and special events. Summer offers a refreshing escape from the heat of the coast below, with the mountain air often noticeably cooler and the rainforest lush and alive.
Autumn brings cooler, mistier days — a beautiful time for forest walks, fungi spotting and photography as moisture settles beneath the canopy.
Winter is a standout season on the mountain, with crisp, clear days, drier walking trails and brilliant night skies creating ideal conditions for hiking and stargazing.
Then comes spring, when waterfalls flow, wildlife becomes more active and the rainforest begins to burst into life once again in preparation for summer.
Come for your favourite season — or return throughout the year and discover a completely different side of O’Reilly’s each time.
A little planning goes a long way when visiting the mountain. We suggest pre-booking activities in advance, especially during busy periods, and allowing extra travel time for the winding mountain road. Comfortable footwear is recommended, along with a jacket, water bottle and sun protection. Even on warm days, temperatures on the mountain can be up to 7°C cooler than the coast, so it is always worth bringing an extra layer.
