A Few Hours
Begin with a coffee at the Mountain Café, then set out for a stroll along the Tree Top Walk. Download the O’Reilly’s App to receive complimentary birdseed before heading to the bird-feeding area, where you can capture an iconic O’Reilly’s photo with colourful king parrots and crimson rosellas. You may even spot one of our famous regent bowerbirds.
Browse the Gift Shop for locally inspired keepsakes, then finish your visit with a hearty lunch at the Mountain Café before making your way back down the mountain.
A Full Day
Start your morning with a coffee at the Mountain Café before wandering across the Tree Top Walk and taking in the rainforest from above. Download the O’Reilly’s App to receive complimentary birdseed, then make your way to the bird-feeding area for the chance to meet colourful king parrots and crimson rosellas—and perhaps even spot a regent bowerbird.
From there, choose one of our shorter rainforest walks and spend time exploring the ancient Gondwana rainforest at your own pace. Before your visit, be sure to check the Discovery Program and pre-book an afternoon activity that suits your interests.
After your walk, return to the Mountain Café for lunch, then browse the Gift Shop and discover the stories shared throughout our Centenary Exhibitions. Finish the day with your chosen activity and, time permitting, stop at one of the scenic lookouts before beginning the journey home.
A Day of Adventure
Make the most of your time on the mountain by pre-booking a Private Guided Walk for the morning and a second experience for the afternoon.
Start with a quick coffee at the Mountain Café before meeting your private guide at Reception. From there, head deep into the ancient Gondwana rainforest on a half-day walk tailored to your interests. Along the way, your guide will share stories, insights and local knowledge that bring the forest to life.
After returning to the Guesthouse, enjoy a well-earned lunch at the Mountain Café. Spend a little time exploring the Centenary Exhibitions, browsing the Gift Shop or visiting the bird-feeding area before making your way to the Discovery Centre for your afternoon activity.
Choose from experiences such as the Birds of Prey Show, Wildlife Encounter or a 4WD and Billy Tea adventure. At the end of the day, collect some refreshments for the drive and allow plenty of time to travel safely back down the mountain.
Top Tips
Respect our wildlife
Please do not feed native wildlife anywhere within the National Park or Retreat grounds. O’Reilly’s managed bird-feeding experience is the exception, using specially selected sterilised seed to help prevent invasive plant species from entering the rainforest. Outside this supervised activity, feeding wildlife is prohibited.
Stay on designated tracks
Please stick to marked walking tracks and follow all signage while exploring the rainforest. Staying on designated trails helps protect fragile vegetation, wildlife habitat and sensitive forest ecosystems — while also helping keep you safe.
Enjoy our mountain spring water mindfully
O’Reilly’s is fortunate to have a beautiful natural mountain spring water supply. Clean drinking water is available from taps throughout the Retreat, and we encourage visitors to refill reusable drink bottles at our refill stations. Please enjoy this precious resource mindfully and help us avoid unnecessary water waste.
Recycle and dispose of waste thoughtfully
Clearly marked RUBBISH and RECYCLING facilities are provided throughout the Retreat. We greatly appreciate you taking a moment to place your waste in the correct bin — small actions like this help us reduce landfill and care for our rainforest home.
Get Directions to O’Reilly’s
Your journey up to O’Reilly’s is a great way to explore and experience the Scenic Rim and surrounding areas. Plan your day ahead and be sure to pre-book any activities to avoid disappointment.
Located just 90 minutes from the Gold Coast and 2 hours from Brisbane, O’Reilly’s is an easy and rewarding day trip for those wanting to experience the beauty of Lamington National Park.
The journey to O’Reilly’s is part of the experience. Travel via Canungra and if time allows, stop along the way for a creekside snack or gourmet picnic basket at Canungra Valley Vineyards. Families may enjoy some extra time to walk the friendly alpacas before continuing the drive.
From Canungra, allow around 40 minutes to travel the winding and scenic mountain road to O’Reilly’s. For an even more memorable trip, download the O’Reilly’s App before you leave and enjoy the Audio Tour, designed to help guide your journey and share fascinating stories and facts as you make your way up the mountain.
Discover even more during your visit with a changing program of seasonal activities, guided experiences and special events.
Throughout the year, guests can explore our Centenary Exhibitions, which share the stories, heritage and enduring legacy of O’Reilly’s. On weekends, enjoy complimentary Billy Tea and Damper from 10.30am to 12pm, a much-loved mountain tradition and a memorable addition to your day.
A little planning goes a long way when visiting the mountain. We suggest pre-booking activities in advance, especially during busy periods, and allowing extra travel time for the winding mountain road. Comfortable footwear is recommended, along with a jacket, water bottle and sun protection. Even on warm days, temperatures on the mountain can be up to 7°C cooler than the coast, so it is always worth bringing an extra layer.
If you fall in love with the mountain and decide one day simply isn’t enough, ask our team about accommodation availability. A spontaneous overnight stay can be the perfect way to enjoy even more of the walks, activities and peaceful rainforest surrounds.
