Protecting What Matters Most.
For almost 100 years, O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat has existed alongside one of the world’s most extraordinary natural environments — the ancient Gondwana Rainforests of Lamington National Park.
As a family-owned and operated business, sustainability is not simply part of our story, it is part of our responsibility. From conservation and environmental education to sustainable tourism practices and eco-conscious accommodation design, we are committed to protecting this remarkable landscape for future generations.
A Legacy of Stewardship.
For generations, the O’Reilly family has lived and worked within the Lamington plateau, developing a deep connection to the rainforest and its preservation.
Long before ecotourism became widely recognised, the O’Reilly family were pioneering nature-based experiences that encouraged visitors to appreciate, understand and protect the environment around them.
Today, that commitment continues through sustainable operations, conservation partnerships and immersive guest experiences designed to foster a deeper connection with nature.
“We believe tourism should actively contribute to protecting the places people come to experience.”
Acknowledgement of Country.
We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land on which O’Reilly’s stands, and pay our respects to Elders past and present. We recognise the Yugambeh language region, and the Aboriginal family groups connected to this Country, including the Mununjali people of the Kerry Valley and Beaudesert region, and the Wangerriburra people of the Canungra and Coomera River region. We honour their enduring connection to this ancient landscape — known to many as Woonoongoora — and acknowledge the stories, knowledge and care that have shaped and protected this place for generations.
Our Sustainability Pillars.
At O’Reilly’s, sustainability isn’t a trend, it’s part of who we are. From preserving the rich heritage of Lamington National Park to creating meaningful guest experiences and protecting the environment for future generations, our commitment is woven into every part of the journey.
For nearly a century, O’Reilly’s has remained deeply connected to the history, stories and environmental significance of Lamington National Park.
We believe genuine hospitality should feel thoughtful, meaningful and responsible, creating experiences that connect guests with nature and community.
From reducing waste and conserving resources to supporting biodiversity and environmental education, sustainability guides the way we operate today and into the future.
How We’re Making a Difference
At O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat, sustainability isn’t just a philosophy it’s part of everyday life. We’re committed to protecting the natural environment that makes this place so special. From conserving water and reducing waste to supporting local producers and investing in eco-conscious accommodation, every initiative reflects our dedication to responsible tourism and preserving the rainforest for future generations.
Guests enjoy fresh mountain spring water sourced from the Lamington plateau and treated on-site. Rainwater harvesting systems also contribute to our water infrastructure, while treated wastewater is responsibly returned to the surrounding forest ecosystem.
From full waste separation to our Scout10cent recycling initiative, O’Reilly’s is committed to reducing landfill and encouraging responsible recycling practices across the Retreat.
Guests can choose to skip daily room servicing and linen laundering in exchange for a complimentary drink voucher — helping reduce water use, energy consumption and emissions.
