Five ways to experience Scenic Rim Eat Local Week

With just days to go until the launch of Scenic Rim Eat Local Week here are the TOP FIVE things you need to know to eat your way around this annual food and flavour spectacular.

1. You don’t need to travel to Brisbane or Gold Coast to sample the best of Australia’s restaurant scene.

Executive Chef’s Glen Barrat (Wild Canary) and Javier Codina (Moda Restaurant) are just two Eat Local Week (ELW) ambassadors showcasing Scenic Rim produce this month. You can see Josue Lopez and gain a sneak peak of his new Opal Restaurant menu (featuring Scenic Rim produce) when he comes to Tamborine Mountain on 4th July.

2. ELW is for the kids too!

Eat Local Week is a gold mine for kids, especially with school holidays coming up, check out:

  • Naughty Little Kids Open Day ($5) in Peak Crossing will let the kids pat the baby goats, hand milk the big goats and sample their award-winning cheese and gelato…yum!
  • Kids can go bush on Mt Barney and locate bush tucker in the wild with the Bush Tucker Tracker on the 1st, 3rd and 7th July ($20pp)

3. It doesn’t have to cost a lot to get a taste of the Scenic Rim!

  • Beaudesert Gourmet Street Food Festival is FREE on the 1st July (until you smell some of Australia’s best mobile chefs cooking up Scenic Rim produce that is!)
  • Learn about Scenic Rim bush tucker at DJ Smith Park, Canungra – FREE, 4th & 6th July

4. Take the time to savour local produce in the Scenic Rim outdoors

Experience a locally sourced three course share platter at the O’Reilly’s Canungra Valley Vineyards Longest Lunch on Sunday 1st July. Teaming up with local Kalbar butcher to reinterpret some old favourites like ‘bangers and mash’, O’Reilly’s Chef Paula will be serving:

  • Pork, pear and cinnamon sausage on a bed of Canungra Creek chive mash potatoes and onion gravy
  • Slow Braised Lamb Shoulder with O’Reilly’s Shane Shiraz pan sauce (from Eat Local Week V2 Recipe Book) with Fassifern Valley vegetables
  • Lemon Myrtle cheesecake with Canungra Creek finger lime caviar

5. Buy the book!

Brenda Fawdon and Christine Sharp have captured the essence of the Scenic Rim and its endless bounty of local produce and personalities in the recent release of Eat Local V2 recipe book. Mouth-watering recipes brimming with Scenic Rim produce are brought to life with rich rural photography and farming history. Not only are the recipes great but it’s well worth a read!  Copies of Eat Local V2 will be available to purchase for $45 at O’Reilly’s Canungra Vineyards Longest Lunch and cellar door.

Although the official kick off is 30th June, Scenic Rim Eat Local Week events are already underway! By far the biggest and the best yet and oozing with farm experiences, field days, long lunches, degustation and food festivals go to www.eatlocalweek.com.au for the full program and booking details.
